Whitney's 24th Birthday

    Hi Everyone,
Oh my gosh I have really missed writing. This picture is from Friday March 12th, two days after I got home. I decided I would make dinner for Whitney's birthday.  There were 11 of us and maybe I bit off a bit too much. I was exhausted!!! It was great having everyone over and getting caught up and my family did all the dishes which was great. This is the reason I came back:) Not for the dishes ! haha!!! Starting from the front left is Danielle (Landon's girlfriend), Landon (my son), Jerry (brother in law), Judy (sister), Kyle (nephew), Dad, Mom, Me, Whitney (daughter/birthday girl), Lauren (daughter) and Jason (Lauren's boyfriend). This is our typical dinner at my home and I love it...
It has been an adjustment getting back, first just being tired ( I am back to normal now) and just getting use to being home. I missed my family so much but I think I need to plan something so I can look forward to another adventure:)
What have I done????

I have spent the past 4 days unpacking, cleaning and organizing. I feel like when I moved here last June it has been a whirlwind. With school and remodeling, organizing just didn't happen the way I had hoped for, so now that I have a window of time I am going to focus on getting my house dialed in. It feels so good to clean out things, it definitely is a personal clean out as well and I believe it is so good for us to purge the things we no longer need. It opens us to be more productive.

Yikes!!!
I have decided that I would really like to write a book. It has been something that I have been thinking about for a while and after the positive response from my readers I feel like I am ready to try. However,  I need to figure some things out, like how exactly do you go about getting a book published? I am putting this out there so it becomes a reality:)
It feels so good to to say hi and reach out to all of you. I have heard from so many, some I know and some I don't, but the closeness I feel is really something. I have missed you all over the past few days.
                 Talk to you soon,
                                            Sending all my love,
                                                                           Laura

Thought for the day:

In life we often settle
Settle for a job we don't like
Settle to live in a city we don't want to live in
Settle to go with the flow
Settle for mediocre relationships
Settle because we think this is as good as it gets
Settle because of lack of confidence
Settle because it's easy
Settle to not hurt others feelings
Settle for lack of knowing what's out there
Settle because of fear of change
Let's not settle anymore
Let's focus on what we want
Let's not be afraid of the unknown
Let's live this amazing life that we are so blessed to have

Day 58

Au revoir from Paris
Hello and Goodbye,
That is exactly how I feel at the moment. I slept for 3 hours and arrived at the airport in plenty of time to take care of all my duty free paperwork (and boy did  I have my fair share!) It went really smoothly and I am happy to report I am coming home with cash in my pocket:)

In the lounge

Because I used my AA air miles I am travelling in style and am writing the beginning of my blog from the Admirals Lounge. Quite nice, I think this is something that I would like to get used too:) Spending has it's privileges:).

My plane before boarding

I am feeling excited and sad at the same time, an emotion that is unique. When I think about it, the experience I have had I need to carry with me throughout my life and focus on living my life with the same positive energy, spirit and excitement. In work, I need to love what I do and in play, I want to always play hard and play to get the most out of the experience. I am coming home with a fresh, clean slate ready to start rewriting my life, not rewriting but adding too:) I have already had the best career I could ever hope for, raising my kids:) The best thing I have EVER done in my life and my greatest accomplishment and joys have been about my children. Now that I am retired from raising Lauren, Whitney and Landon and I now just reap the benefits of having adult children, I am ready to start my next career. I truly love them more than I could ever express in words, they are my inspiration to exceed in all I do.

Settling in....
In addition to all the things I got from this trip I forget to mention one of the most important, I have gained a strength I didn't know I had. Don't get me wrong I knew I was strong, just not to this degree. I had no one to depend on  so it was all about me! I realized the importance of research, planning, navigating, asking questions, listening, pacing myself, saying no and meaning no, saying yes when meaning yes and so on and so on. If getting older means gaining knowledge then bring it on because I thrive on it:)
I was also thinking of the "things I missed from home" not the people because obviously I missed everyone so much. But there were certain things, silly mostly that kept popping up, starting with, ice tea, Mexican food, my car, my clothes, my jewelry I wear every day, cooking, warm weather, sandals, manicures and pedicures, my bathtub, good lotion, shampoo, conditioner, face wash(when I ran out), my curling iron, my Ugg slippers (I love those), and driving just to name a few.
There were also things I didn't miss, getting gas, hearing an alarm going off at 5 to go to school, homework, going through the mail (thank you Lauren), taking out the dogs (thank you again Lauren), cleaning, doing laundry (well I did bathtub laundry! haha), having to decide what to wear (I didn't have much of a choice), but you know if you don't do those things how can you appreciate when you don't have too?
As I said I am going to continue to write my blog and if you want to know when I am travelling again send me your email and I will let you know, I will also let you know through my blog as well, my email is .lalawhla@aol.com
I am planning to travel the world one trip at a time.
Wish me luck as I transition back home.

Back in the U.S.
When I arrived at the airport I was greeted by Lauren and Whitney. My little Whitney cried and we all hugged each other at the same time for what seemed like minutes. It was a wonderful homecoming. I was going on 24 hours of being awake but had a bit of a second wind and we went to eat and came home and talked until about 2. It feels strange being back, I think it might take me a while...
I wish you all the best of everything and I truly hope that my experience will inspire you to follow your heart, chase your dreams and make them reality and never to let fear get in the way. Because If I could do what I have done on my own anyone could.
and I mean that from the bottom of my heart.
Feel free to contact me through my blog or email and let me know how and what you're doing and if you need encouragement I am here to help.
Thank you all for making this the best reality I could ever hope for.
  Until next time,
                 Bon Appetit,
                                    Laura

Above and beyond

Day 57

No Caption Needed:)
This is why I love Paris, you never know what you will see when you turn the corner:)

Bonjour, Buongiorno, Hello,

What a bittersweet day today is.... My last on a two month long, didn't know it at the time but soul searching, life changing, confidence building, education expanding, circle of friends enlarging, culinary enrichment, personal growth trip of a lifetime, which could never be duplicated. What I thought was just going to be a fun trip to explore the world after almost 2 1/2 years of dedicating my time to education was more than I could ever imagined.
Writing this blog and the response that I have received has been unbelievable. I had no idea that my words and experiences could have an effect on so many people. All of you have made this experience so much more incredible.
I will without a doubt continue to blog as it has brought so much to my life and inspires me to see what else is in store for me.
I'm not going to lie, I am nervous to come back. I have been so busy living my life over the past two months in a non stop intense way that I feel like the energizer bunny and I don't want to slow down.
When I am on the plane tomorrow I am going to write, I never know what will come to me it just comes. It surprises me what I think about.
I would love to be able to encourage people to take risks, be brave and really feel what a blessing it is to be on this earth. I just need to figure out a way to do it:) and do it well.
I will write about tomorrow, but it may come a day late as I get back in the early evening and think I will be pretty tired, physically (as I haven't slept much) and emotionally (as I transition back). It's funny I have always said I hate going to bed the same day I have to wake up...and I have been doing that everyday since I left on January 11th. So I think I will need a good sleep:)
On this last day in Paris, and my last day on my trip, Helen and I spent it together.

Monmartre
To pick up a little Boulangerie painting that I wanted and a couple of other things we needed!!!!!

Hmmmm is that Helen with all the bags?????

Me and the Eiffel
Oh I guess I have a few bags myself:)

Look at the name of this restaurant!
Restaurant Little
Ahhhh it reminded me of my little's Lauren and Whitney

We were walking all day and just had so much fun together. It was pretty darn cold here in Paris today, I think that's why we may have purchased quite a few things... We kept having to go in shops to warm up:)

We stopped by my hotel to drop off my bags and then hopped back on the metro and met Peter (Helen's brother) and Monique (Peter's Fiancee) for dinner. We went to a wonderful little restaurant A mi Chemin.
The food was delicious and the company divine, a perfect way to spend my last night.

Cheers

Then came time to say goodbye. I think we both know we will keep in touch and see each other again so it wasn't as sad as I thought. I am looking forward to hearing all about Helen and her culinary life and chatting with her on Skype like we have done almost every night since the day we met:)

Until our next Metro stop together Helen, Au revoir
Thank you for your kindness and your friendship you are an amazing women and I know you are going to do incredible things with your passion for cooking. I will talk to you soon. You better be honest with me how many boxes you are sending back home:)
See everyone I 'm not the only one:)

Goodnight from Paris and I will catch up with all of you from California on Blog Day 58!!!!

Sending a big Happy Birthday Wish to my friend and Mentor....
Happy Birthday Chef Corey Vuu from aspiring Chef Miller:)

Sending all of you love and looking forward to seeing my family and friends!
Love, Laura

Thought for the day:
Being alone by yourself for an extended period of time, gives you the opportunity to get to know who you really are.....

Day 56

Last night in Paris after I blogged:)
I needed a midnight snack:)

Bonjour from Paris,
I am back in Paris and had a great day! I met Vicki and Kelly for lunch at Le Relais de l'Entrecote. Please go if you are ever in Paris. It was such a great place. All they serve is salad, fries and steak and they bring seconds. Ya I know I need seconds like a hole in the head:) It was very french and very fun especially with great company and a bottle of wine:) Isn't this a nice way to start the day?

Vicki and I during lunch

I try and include the pictures my friends like and Vicki this one is for you. Thank you for all of your kindness and friendship. You absolutely made my stay in Paris memorable and one I will never forget. I can't wait to do the same for you in California:)

Kelly, Vicki and I outside the Le Relais de l'Entrecote

Having friends is one of life's greatest gifts and meeting new friends is so much fun. Kelly, thank you for the wonderful dinner I was invited to at your home and taking time out of your day to have lunch together. You are so a fun person and I really look forward to seeing you again.
Me and the Synagogue (I love them you know:)
After lunch I took the Metro to Marais, a cute little area in Paris. There is a Synagogue there I wanted to see. (It is not open to tour), then of course a bit of shopping, like I haven't done enough, but I don't need to bring Euros home:) and finally......
Helen and I reunite!!!!!

We were very excited to see each other!!! and look she didn't get lost:) We spent the rest of the day together, catching up. She had lots of questions and needed the inside scoop of some of my "new friends" We had a cappuccino that well....didn't taste like one...more like a triple espresso with foam. We tried to doctor it up with sugar but it didn't help mine too much, but we sure had some good energy:) We went and bought a couple more bottles of wine and some bread, as our friend Kate invited us over for dinner. Can you believe how much fun this day is?

Cheers!!!! from Kate's

Look at the nice dinner Kate made for us:)

Kate, this dinner was amazing. Thank you so much for inviting us over. I am looking forward to seeing you tomorrow and also getting together on my next visit to Europe. You and Greg are a cute couple:)
After dinner, around Midnight Helen and I got on the Metro and headed back to our respective places. We Skyped when we got back to make sure we were safe:) Happy to report we are:)

Tomorrow we are meeting in Montmartre and spending my last day together. Helen goes back to Australia on Friday. We are both feeling sad to go. Helen and I will continue Skyping and we will absolutely plan a trip together in the future. Just as soon as we make enough money for airfare and accommodations:) Let's get on it Helen:)

I don't remember if I mentioned that Lauren, Whitney, Landon, Jason(Lauren's boyfriend) and Danielle(Landon's girlfriend) all wrote me a bunch of notes and letters to open while I was on this trip. They included pictures, wrote nice things, funny things and they were really fun to open. I have a great family don't I? As sad as I am to leave, seeing my family (entire family not just my kids!) makes me happy:)

A card from Jason with a hand on it which read:

"High five!! Laura, Start your day off by high fiving this paper hand...I won't think you are silly. Hopefully this card brought a smile to your face! Live life to the fullest! Ps. Send us a pic of the high five! hahahaha, Jason"
So here I am, but I actually ended my day High Fiving the hand (it's difficult to see in the picture but it's there) and yes it did make me smile and we all know I am silly:) and that I do live life to the fullest....Is there any other way?
Love to you all and I will see you soon,
Laura, AKA, mom, grandma, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, friend and world traveller:)

You know me I love the doors:)

Thought for the day:
There are many paths to get to the same place, choose the one that is right for you...
