Well I got up early and was going to give Turino all I got. I had breakfast here at the hotel. (included in the room price and quite nice). I slept great last night and for 8 1\2 hours. So good! I was off.... I asked the concierge, where the train station was, so that I could take care of my train tickets for the rest of the time in Italy, and then asked him for local things to do. His reply.... Well, you can walk to the city center but all the stores and boutiques are closed today (Monday), they were all closed yesterday as well, so my advice; if ever coming to Turino DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT come on a Sunday or Monday! Mondays he told me are stocking days, the people are there, just not open....go figure. There is also an Egyptian Museum here, the largest in the world out side of Cairo. Well I walked, I looked and I asked and didn't find it. Hmmm I wonder how big it is??? , I really do think there is perhaps something here that I am missing, but I haven't got the desire to keep looking. I did find and go into the train station, it was really big, so I just relaxed into it and finally found the ticket office. Oh and did I tell you not many people...at all..speak English here. I waited in line kind of apprehensive and as true luck would have it the man that helped me was unbelievable. So patient, so nice and spoke enough English that we could communicate. I, being the organized traveler, had all of my dates and cities written out. He said that was highly unusual for people to do, but that it is extremely helpful:) Kudos to me!!!! He found me direct routes, went over all the information on the tickets and was so thorough, for 5 tickets; Turino-Pisa, Pisa-Milan, Milan-Venice,Venice-Florence and Florence-Rome the total was only 231 Euros! And now I am set and have them all. When I was in Paris the women at the train station told me I would have to fly or get on an overnight train from Florence-Rome. That just sounded weird so I held off. Thank goodness I did, it's only 1 1\2 hours.
After I got my tickets I walked around the city center, it was really nice but nothing I mean nothing was open. Then I started back to the hotel for my next plan of action, thinking.... well this is just a day to relax and rejuvenate. I passed by a Mail Box Etc. and decided I would further lighten my load so I picked up a box, filled it with things from home I didn't need and aprons, towels and the knife from Le Cordon Bleu among a few other things and I walked the 5 kilo box back to the Mail Box Etc and it is now hopefully on it's way back to the United States. I sure hope all my things make it home, but the funny thing is if they don't I wonder how many things I would remember if I didn't look at my list.
I am back at the hotel now in the nice lounge writing this blog on the community computer. It's warm and cozy in here. I like it. I walked around the hotel and it is incredible, there is beautiful art everywhere (hence the name Hotel Boston Art) It is really an eclectic little spot.
I had my eye on some chocolate down the street (food and snack places are open) and when I went there they were closed for 3 hours for lunch. haha They open up in a few minutes so I am going to go and get some, before they close for dinner!!:) OK I have to tell you... The best chocolate I have ever tasted!!! EVER!!!
I am going to get another good nights sleep tonight and have dinner at the hotel where it's nice and warm and there is no graffiti.
Another thing I noticed, Turino has something in common with Hannukah, I have seen it spelled Turino, Turin,and Torino, you know how you can spell Hanukah, Hanukkah or Chanukah? Are there more spellings than that? These are the kinds of things I think about while walking.
Well I am off to get some chocolate, wish me luck....
Miss you, love you, mean it,
Arrivederci my friends,
Laura
A little market I happened across:)
Thought for the day;
You eat with your eyes first, something can be decadent or a disaster before you even try it....
Judging people by the way they look works the same way....
