Day 39 Florence

Hello Everyone,

Goodbye to Venice, I am asking myself what can top what I just experienced? I can't wait to go back.
As I was leaving my friend at the front desk and my friend in the restaurant came out and hugged me goodbye and took this picture as I was walking out the door. It was pouring down rain and my friend said it was raining because Venice was sad to see me go:( I was sad as well.
I had about a 10 minute walk in the pouring down rain to the ferry to take me to the train station. It was a 45 minute ride which was great and the cost was 6.50 euro. On the way to my hotel when I came it was so overwhelming with all the carnivale people, I didn't know where I was going and I took a private water taxi, it took 25 minutes and 60.euro...Hmmm isn't a little knowledge a great thing? So I cost averaged it and at 33.25 euro each way it didn't sound so bad. Next time it will be 6.50 each way:) Live and learn!
I am getting really proficient with the train situation and getting on with my bag was a breeze. Every train I have been on has been a different set up. This one was really nice, new, clean and very comfortable. I love travelling by train it's so easy.
I arrived at the hotel and I got upgraded to a superior room with a river view. It is about 10 times bigger than my previous room. Funny how that is. I have a balcony and the furnishings are very nice. Starwood members have their benefits:) This is the third Westin hotel I have stayed at, Paris, Milan and Florence and they all have been really nice. It's been fun staying at all the different types of hotels and they all have their own charm. My view is also really amazing, except for "what's with the brown river water?" Not liking that so much. In Venice it was blue and beautiful. The Italians should figure out how to make it blue...It seems as though they do everything so well and are so innovative that they could surely do something about the water. Don't you think?
I just had a relaxing day, I was feeling tired and achy, I think all the walking is catching up with me:) So I just unpacked, organized my things and went out for a couple of hours to check it out. Tomorrow I will go to The Duomo and a couple of museums. The history here is unbelievable. I still feel like I need to pinch myself.

As I was walking not really knowing where I was or where I was going something caught my eye and I needed to take a closer look. So far so good, I think I am going to like Florence:)
I hope where ever you are and what ever you are doing that you are having a good day.
I also want to thank everyone for all the nice emails, texts and comments, they make my day and inspire me.

                    Sending my love from Florence,
                                                                                                      Laura

Thought for the day:
There is a time to talk and a time to listen
There is a time to be strong and a time to be soft
There is a time to be a friend and a time you need a friend
There is a time to love and a time to be loved
Take the time....

  1. The view looks amazing.....I believe the water is brown because of the sediment it is carrying (Clay, Silt, etc..). If you are lucky it may calm and show its true colors. Your blog is still cracking me up.....watch out for those statues! Enjoy your day!!
